Present: points one at a time, and how slides come on

For leadersChecked Oct 26, 20262 minutes to read

Bring a sermon's points in one by one, fill in the blanks as you go, and choose how each slide comes on.

A slide's lines can come one at a time as you press Next, and a word can be a blank that fills in as its line appears. Open the slide, tick Show the lines one at a time, and save.

Points one at a time

  1. In the slides, open a slide with a title and lines (a sermon point, say).
  2. Tick Show the lines one at a time.
  3. Put a word in [brackets] to make it a blank: "It can't be [earned]". It rises into place with its underline as its line comes in.
  4. Save.

When the slide goes up, the title shows first (or the first line, if there's no title). Each Next brings a line; Back takes one away. Once every line is up, Next goes on to the next slide. Going back onto the slide shows it whole.

While you run the slides, the Next picture says "Next: point 2 of 3" and the slide on screen shows how far it's come, like 1/3. The pastor's screen shows every line, the ones still to come dimmed and the next one marked.

Slides built from the pastor's notes come this way already: a point's lines one at a time, and a blank where the notes underlined or bracketed a word.

With Follow along, the sermon's slides that come this way are its outline on people's own phones. Words in [brackets] stay hidden there until you reach them; the rest of a point shows, dimmed, ahead of time, and each blank fills in as its line comes up, a few seconds after the screens.

How big the words are

Words slides never shrink below about an inch tall on a ten-foot screen, so the back row reads them. A long line wraps instead of making every line smaller, and the heading gives way before the lines do. Keep to about four lines a slide and about 42 letters a line; the sermon builder does this for you, putting a long point on two or three slides marked "1 of 3". A slide with too many words shows in Get ready for Sunday under Fix what's missing, with Split it.

A handout to fill in

When the sermon's slides have blanks, the backup print offers Fill-in handout: the points with each blank as a line, for the congregation. Open the slides, press Get ready for Sunday, then the backup print, then Fill-in handout. After the service, the recorded sermon's page can make a one-page handout too, with the questions for small groups: see email and social.

How a slide comes on

Each theme says how its slides come on: a cut, a fade of the words, a dissolve of the whole slide, a push, or a gentle zoom, in a second or less. To change one slide, open it and choose under How it comes on. To change them all, change the theme.
