The label printer (DYMO LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo)
DYMO Connect on a Windows or Mac laptop, big labels on the left and small on the right, and the browser allowed in.
Kids prints on a DYMO LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo: a big name tag for each child from one roll, and small labels from the other (the parent's receipt, a bag tag, and a label for the room's paper sheet). It plugs into a laptop by USB, so it prints from a computer, never straight from an iPad. The iPads send their labels to that laptop.
Set up the laptop
- Use a Windows or Mac laptop, not a Chromebook: DYMO's software doesn't run on ChromeOS.
- Install DYMO Connect for Desktop from DYMO's website, and plug the printer in by USB.
- Load big labels (DYMO 30256) on the left roll and small labels (30252) on the right.
- Open praisepad.app/station in Chrome or Edge and pair it as the welcome desk or the printer laptop (see stations).
- Open Printer setup and choose . When it asks whether the big label came out on the left, answer, and it saves.
Don't use the DYMO Connect app itself to print on the check-in laptop: after it prints, the browser's labels can come out of the wrong roll until the laptop restarts.
If it won't print
The setup screen says which of these it is, with a , and always works: codes show on screen and you can reprint later.
- The browser is blocking the label printer. The first time, Chrome and Edge ask to let the site use apps on this device (or the local network). Choose Allow. If someone chose Block, click the icon at the left of the address bar, then Site settings, find Apps on device (or Local network access), choose Allow, and come back.
- DYMO Connect isn't running. Open it, check the printer is on and its light is green, then check again.
- Safari on a Mac doesn't trust it yet. Open DYMO's check page in a new tab, accept the warning once (it should say true), and come back.
Under Settings › Kids › Labels, choose the label sizes, which labels print, and see a preview of each. Labels show first name and last initial, room, code and picture, page number and the short alert; never medical notes or a phone number.
