Refunds, disputes, and when the give page pauses itself
Refund an online gift with a fresh two-step code, what a dispute means, and the card-tester pause.
Money going the other way is rare, so each case is one plain screen for a Giving manager who may handle money (not a bookkeeper or an auditor).
Refund an online gift
Open the gift from Gifts, the Giving home or a payout and choose Refund…. Pick all of it or a part, say why (the giver asked, given twice, a mistake, a card tester, or something else), and enter a fresh two-step code. Stripe keeps its processing fee; PraisePad gives its fee back. The giver is emailed when Stripe confirms the refund, their statement shows the net, and the gift shows what was refunded and when. A monthly gift keeps going unless you end it under Monthly. A check or cash gift isn't refunded here: void it and give the money back yourself.
A dispute
When a giver's bank disputes a card gift, the gift is marked disputed, the Giving managers and owners are emailed with the reason and the date to answer by, and the Giving home lists it. Answer it in the church's Stripe dashboard, with the receipt and anything the giver signed. A dispute you win puts the gift back as it was. One you lose takes the money back from the church's balance, plus Stripe's dispute fee, and any statement it was on goes on the out-of-date list.
The give page paused itself
Eight failed card tries on your give page within ten minutes looks like someone testing stolen cards, so the page pauses for 30 minutes, the Giving home shows a banner, and the managers are emailed. Monthly gifts and signed-in givers aren't affected. From the banner, refund the small charges that got through in one tap (each giver is emailed) and turn the page back on early if it was a false alarm.
Stripe paused the account
If Stripe pauses the church's account (it usually wants a document), the banner says so in words, gifts wait safely in the church's Stripe balance, and the fix is in Settings under Giving or the church's Stripe dashboard.
