Tune your instrument
PraisePad's tuner listens on your phone, for any instrument and any tuning, and shows the last cent.
Open the from your account menu, or press the tuner button on the stage. Press , allow the microphone, and pluck a string.
What you see
- The note, big, with how far off it is in cents and the exact pitch in hertz.
- A needle for the rough distance, and an amber ribbon for the last cent: it drifts left when you're flat, right when you're sharp, slows as you get close, and stops still when you're in tune. Two markers meet in the middle and a check appears.
- Your strings along the bottom. The tuner hears which one you play; tap a string to lock onto it in a noisy room, and hold one to hear its note. Finished strings stay ticked, and the tuner moves on to the next.
- Plain words: "Tune up a little", "Tune down", "In tune".
Instruments and tunings
Choose your instrument at the top: guitar (6, 7, or 12-string), bass (4, 5, or 6-string), ukulele, mandolin, banjo, violin, viola, cello, or double bass. Every tuning PraisePad's chord diagrams know is here, with your own custom tunings. takes any note, for voice, keys, and horns, and can show the note as a B♭, E♭, or F instrument reads it.
On the stage, the tuner opens on the song's own tuning. If the song has a capo, tick to check the strings as they sound with it clamped.
Concert pitch
The tuner tunes to your church's concert pitch, 440 Hz unless an owner or admin changed it in to match the piano or organ. You can set your own in the tuner's , with how close counts as in tune (half a cent to three cents).
Your phone
- iPhone, from the Home Screen: iPhone asks for the microphone each time you open PraisePad, and again after a minute without using it. To stop that, open Settings › Apps › Safari › Microphone and choose .
- Headphones: with AirPods or a headset in, your phone may listen through them. The phone's own microphone usually tunes better.
- A call or another app stops the tuner: press .
- The tuner keeps your screen awake while it listens.
Nothing is recorded, and the sound never leaves your device.
